ABOUT RIO

The city of Rio de Janeiro is the main tourist destination in Latin America and the second most populous city in Brazil, with over 6 million inhabitants. Rio was once the capital of the country, and before that, of the Portuguese Empire. The city still serves as a mirror of the rich and diverse culture of Brazil. Rio is the perfect place to hear and dance samba, play capoeira and football, eat feijoada, drink caipirinha and enjoy the legit Brazilian way of life.

However, the city also reflects the great social inequality in the country. Despite being the seventh largest economy in the world, Brazil still faces difficulties in the distribution of its resources. In this context, civil organizations such as NGOs and social movements, become cornerstones for the development of more egalitarian and fair nation.

Rio today is going under a series of transformations made possible by investments through events like the World Cup and the Olympics. It is a great moment to empower people and an opportunity for big change and you can be part of building a better society.

DAILY LIFE OF THE VOLUNTEER

During their journey with NEB, the volunteer will participate in a program that allows him to develop a social work, get to know the city´s famous attractive spots, and still have free time to explore Rio on your own.

On the first day of the program, the coordinators will orientate the volunteers about their routines, including info about transportations, security, and general tips about the city. The volunteer day starts with a breakfast at the hostel, and from Monday to Thursday the social works happens from 9am to 4pm. From Friday to Sunday the volunteer have their weekends free.

During the program, sightseen will be offered as optional programs. The coordinators will be following all the activities and always available if necessary.
